Today the shortlists for the 2014 Alberta Book Publishing Awards were revealed, and NeWest Press finds itself in the running with five nominations! As part of the Alberta Book Design awards, Kisscut Design maestro Natalie Olsen's stellar book jacket work has been recognized on Jenna Butler's Seldom Seen Road (also nominated for the Raymond Souster Award) and Rosie Chard's The Insistent Garden (recent winner of the Margaret Laurence Award at the Manitoba Book Awards)
For the Alberta Book of the Year Awards, Thea Bowering's Love At Last Sight is nominated for the Trade Fiction Book of the Year, while Steve Hanon's The Devil's Breath: The Story of the Hillcrest Mine Disaster of 1914 is up for the Trade Non-Fiction Book Award. Finally, Jenna Butler's Seldom Seen Road has again been recognized, this time for the Robert Kroetsch Poetry Book Award! Congratulations to all of our finalist authors, and we will all look forward to seeing the winners at this year's ceremony, which will be held as part of the Alberta Book Awards Gala at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary on Friday, June 6th.
