Terms:            part-time, contract, 17.5 hours a week

Founded in 1977, NeWest Press is one of Canada's first independent literary publishing houses. NeWest publishes literary fiction, literary nonfiction, poetry, and drama, as well as a line of mystery novels, with a particular interest in books by Western Canadian authors. We are looking for a professional, independent, and inquisitive individual to join our team for a year-long contract. Working with our small staff and especially our Marketing and Production Coordinator, the successful candidate will be in charge of social media messaging, media research and launch planning for the Press. The position will be based out of our office in Edmonton.

 

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing or humanities

• Experience using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)

• Experience writing promotional and marketing material

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs

• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and email marketing software an asset

• Photography experience an asset, as are critical thinking and problem-solving skills

• Knowledge and interest in the Canadian publishing industry or non-profits an asset

• Candidate must be able to work independently on many projects with excellent time management

• Candidate must be organized and efficient, and enjoy working with people in a small office

 

Job Description

 

Event Planning

• Location research and database maintenance (emphasize locations with full accessibility)

• Arrange catering for events when required

• Social media and email engagements and announcements relating to the launch

• Media release (pitches to CBC, book reviewers etc.)

• Maintain a database of media review contacts

• Update event calendars in target cities

• Finding co-presenters for events when required (other presses, local artists etc.)

• Locate event host(s) if required

 

Social Media Management

• Create and maintain Instagram account for NeWest

• Maintain regular content creation and engagement on all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram)

 

E-Newsletter

• Maintain and increase newsletter contacts (adhering to CASL regulations)

• Monthly E-Newsletter content development and distribution

• Author interviews

• Review highlights

• Book Club 

• Books about town

• Upcoming events

• Staff picks

• Photography

 

Awards Submissions

• Maintain contact and submissions list with deadlines and summaries

• Handle all applications and shipping for awards submissions

 

Promotional Mail-outs 

• Maintain media/review contact list

• General research for new media contacts (podcasts, bloggers, vloggers etc.)

• Mail out new books to reviewers with title information

 

This is a part-time contract position offering 17.5 hours a week from July 2019 to June 2020. There is a possibility of renewal to June 2021. NeWest Press offers a health benefits package through Blue Cross.
